Vietnam sleeper bus booking guide: choosing the bus, your bed and the pickup point
Planning a long-distance or overnight bus? Vietnam sleeper bus booking goes more smoothly when you know three things in advance: the bus type, the seat or bed (berth) you will get, and exactly where you get on. The online search on this page is a preview, so send OT Travel your route and date on WhatsApp or Messenger and we confirm the fare and your seat or berth by chat before you pay.

Sleeper bus, limousine bus or seated coach: which suits your trip?
A long bus ride feels less uncertain when you know exactly what you have booked: choose the bus type first, then check the actual layout.
- Sleeper bus. Rows of berths on an upper and a lower level, often with a blanket and a small storage space. Suits overnight and long daytime routes. Ask whether you can choose an upper or lower berth.
- Limousine bus (also called a limousine van). A smaller vehicle with fewer, wider seats or berths, often with a pickup in the city center. Ask for the exact seating plan and how the pickup works, as arrangements differ.
- Seated coach. Standard forward-facing seats, no berths. A seated coach can suit shorter daytime trips, but the types available vary by route and date, so ask what is on offer.

Labels such as “VIP”, “cabin”, “limousine” and “sleeper” are not specifications: check the actual seat or berth layout rather than the label, and ask us what layout details we can confirm before you pay.
How long does the bus take? Five Vietnam routes compared
All figures are approximate road distances and driving times; traffic and stops change them.
| Route | Distance | Time by road |
|---|---|---|
| Hanoi → Sapa | about 315–320 km | about 5–6 h |
| Ho Chi Minh City → Da Lat | about 300–310 km | about 6.5–8 h |
| Ho Chi Minh City → Mui Ne (Phan Thiet) | about 200–220 km | about 4–6 h |
| Hanoi → Ha Long | about 150 km | about 2.5–3.5 h |
| Da Nang → Hue | about 100 km | about 2.5–3.5 h |
Hanoi to Sapa bus
Night sleeper buses and limousine buses exist on this route (Sapa is also written Sa Pa). The road takes roughly 5–6 hours, but bus journey times vary with traffic, stops and operator, so confirm the departure and expected arrival time. The last 35 km or so, from Lao Cai, is mountain road; if you get motion sickness, ask for a seat near the front and eat lightly beforehand. If you want a Hanoi to Sapa bus with a toilet, ask before booking whether there is one on board rather than assuming. Weighing it against the train? See our Vietnam train booking tips.
Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat bus
Sleeper and limousine types both exist on this route. The final section is a hill road, so the same motion-sickness habits help. Confirm the drop-off point as an address, especially if you arrive after dark.
Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne bus
Ask exactly where the bus stops in Mui Ne (Phan Thiet) and how far that is from your hotel. Going straight from Tan Son Nhat airport? Check that you can reach the pickup point in time after landing, or compare a private car for the whole trip.

Hanoi to Ha Long Bay bus
If you are joining a boat in Ha Long Bay (also written Halong), leave a clear margin between the scheduled arrival and boarding. Ask whether the pickup is from your hotel area or a fixed point.

Da Nang to Hue bus
The road crosses the Hai Van area, either over the pass or through the tunnel, depending on the route the vehicle takes. Ask which vehicle types are available on your date and, if you want to see the pass, which way the vehicle goes.

Ask before you pay, check before you board
What to ask before you pay
- What is the exact pickup address? Is there a shuttle from my hotel area?
- What is the departure time, and roughly when will we arrive?
- Which seat or berth is mine: upper or lower, front or back?
- If we are traveling as a pair or a group, can we have berths or seats next to each other?
- Where do large suitcases go?
Checklist before you board
- The name on the ticket matches your passport, and screenshots of your confirmation are saved offline.
- You have the pickup point as an address and map pin, and know how early to be there.
- Your main luggage is separate from the bag you keep with you: passport, phone, charger or power bank, water, snacks and a warm layer.
- An alarm is set before your expected arrival, and your hotel knows when you are due.
Comfort and safety on a sleeper bus: what to check
No single answer covers every operator and vehicle, so check your own departure.
Comfort: upper or lower berth, length and toilet
- The layout: upper or lower berth, position in the bus, and berth length if you are tall.
- Whether a blanket, storage space and a toilet are provided, and how many rest stops to expect.
Safety checks
- Ask which licensed operator runs your departure.
- Use the seat belt wherever one is fitted.
- Keep your passport, money and phone with you, not in the luggage hold.
- Note the vehicle’s license plate and share your trip details with someone.
- Stay in your seat or berth while the bus is moving, and take care climbing to an upper berth.
- Get off only at the stop you confirmed. If someone suggests a different stop, compare it with your written confirmation and your map pin before you leave the bus.
When a private car makes more sense than the bus
A private car is worth comparing when:
- The airport and the bus pickup point are in different places. Going from Noi Bai airport to Sapa? Noi Bai is the usual gateway, but a bus may leave from the city rather than the airport. In the car form you can enter any pickup and destination, for the airport-to-pickup leg or the whole journey. Our Vietnam airport transfer guide lists what to send for a pickup.
- You are a group or a family. One vehicle can be arranged around your group’s timing, with pickup at an address you confirm in writing. We list cars from a 5-seat sedan to a 16-seat minibus (Ford Transit category).
- You land late or leave early and no bus fits your flight.
- You carry a lot of luggage or bulky items. Tell us in advance, because we check seats and luggage together before confirming.
Confirm in writing what the quote covers, whether tolls and parking are included, and the waiting allowance. See also our guide to a private car with driver in Vietnam.

Enter your pickup point, destination and time in the form below to see an estimated price. We confirm the details before the trip; the form itself does not take payment.

Tip: you can type place names in your own language or in English. Some labels may appear in Vietnamese.
How much time should you leave for flights, trains and boats?
Bus arrival times are estimates, not commitments. Do not build a tight connection around a scheduled arrival, whether the next step is a flight, a train or a fixed check-in time such as a boat departure. If the bus takes you toward an airport, leave a wide margin before check-in, and avoid an overnight bus that arrives shortly before your flight.

Vietnam sleeper bus booking FAQ
How do I book a sleeper bus in Vietnam?
With OT Travel, pick your route and date in the search form, then send your request by WhatsApp or Messenger with each passenger’s name as in the passport. We confirm the fare and the seat or berth by chat before you pay; ask for the pickup point in writing as well.
Are sleeper buses safe in Vietnam?
No single answer covers every operator and vehicle, so check your own departure. Ask which licensed operator runs it, look at the berth layout and use a seat belt where one is fitted. Keep your passport, money and phone with you, not in the luggage hold.
Are sleeper buses comfortable?
It depends on the vehicle and your berth. Ask for the layout, whether you are on an upper or lower berth, and whether a blanket and storage space are provided. If you are tall, ask about berth length.
How long does the Hanoi to Sapa bus take?
The road distance is about 315–320 km, roughly 5–6 hours by road depending on traffic, route and stops. Confirm the departure and expected arrival time for your own bus. The last part, from Lao Cai to Sapa, is about 35 km of mountain road.
Do Vietnam sleeper buses have toilets?
It depends on the vehicle, so do not assume either way. Ask before you book whether there is an on-board toilet and how many rest stops to expect, whether you are booking Hanoi to Sapa, Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat or another route.
What is a limousine bus in Vietnam?
The term often refers to a smaller vehicle, also called a limousine van, with fewer, wider seats or berths and a pickup that is often in the city center. Layouts vary, so ask for the actual seating plan and pickup arrangement.
Hanoi to Sapa: should I take the bus or the train?
Compare the whole journey, not just the ride: where each option starts and finishes, how you reach Sapa town from there (the last leg from Lao Cai is about 35 km of mountain road), and how much spare time you want before your next plan. Availability and layouts vary by date, so check your own departure. Our Vietnam train booking tips cover the train side.
Can I book Vietnam bus tickets online and get an instant e-ticket?
Not at the moment. Our online bus booking page is in preview, so the fares, seats and timetables on it are not live. We confirm the fare and your seat or berth by chat before any payment.
